Colorado legislation effective January 1, 2026 requires out-of-state physicians who provide telehealth services to Colorado patients to register with the Colorado Medical Board before providing services. This registration is separate from full licensure.
What the law requires
An out-of-state physician who holds a full, unrestricted license in another US state or territory may register with the Colorado Medical Board to provide telehealth services to Colorado patients. This is a registration, not a license — it does not confer the right to practice in-person medicine in Colorado.
How to register
Registration is completed through the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) portal at dora.colorado.gov. The application requires proof of licensure in your home state, verification of no disciplinary actions, and a registration fee. Processing times vary.
What this is not
This registration does not replace a full Colorado medical license if you intend to practice in-person medicine in Colorado. Colorado is also an IMLC member — physicians with IMLC Letters of Qualification can seek full licensure through the compact's expedited process if preferred.
